In addition to providing fresh local produce to area residents the Hudson Farmers Market has another claim to fame, Tracey Garrett.
Garrett, owner of Top Tier Pastry in Garrettsville and a long-time vendor with the market, was featured in the February edition of the national publication "Dessert Professional."
"It was a huge honor," Garrett said. "I was actually contacted by the editor of the magazine."
The editor of the trade magazine said she had been watching Garrett's Facebook page and wanted to feature her in the magazine.
The magazine profiled Garrett and featured her Chocolate Cherry Pistachio Cake with Red Wine Poached Pears, along with other pistachio treats.
"I love the Hudson Farmers Market," Garrett said. "It is the only market I participate in."
Garrett's business is in her home and she is the owner/operator -- and, at the moment, its only employee.
"I do get some help from my wonderful husband, Rich," she said.
Soon, she will return to the farmers market with Hudson's favorite treat, the chocolate cinnamon babka.
"That seems to be pretty popular, but I'll be bringing a variety of pastries along with fresh pretzels and our own preserves," Garrett said.
Garrett said a lot of the ingredients in her pastries and preserves are local and even come from the vendors at the Hudson market.
In addition to her following from the Farmers Market, Garrett is also known as a former assistant pastry chef at Treva in Akron and former pastry chef at Hudson Crossings.
She trained at Hudson's own Western Reserve School of Cooking and with Wendy Kromer Confections in Sandusky. She also took classes with Ciril Hitz, Ewald Notter, Norman Love and Nick Malgieri.
